My 9 Key Principles for Optimal Performance | A Guide to Productivity and Focus

Do you ever wonder how some people seem to have boundless energy, focus, and productivity? Do you feel like you're constantly struggling to keep up with your own goals and expectations? If so, you're not alone.

As a structural engineer and investor, I understand the importance of performance in all aspects of life. But it's not just about working harder or longer hours – it's about working smarter and optimising your daily habits for success.

Over the years, I've discovered 9 key principles that have helped me achieve optimal performance and productivity. These principles have been inspired by experts like James Clear, Cal Newport, Ekneth Easwaran, and Kelly McGonigal, and they can be applied to any aspect of your life.

  1. Wake up at the same time every day. Consistency is key when it comes to establishing a healthy sleep routine (circadian rhythm) and setting the tone for the day ahead.

  2. Walk and meditate every morning. A simple morning routine that includes movement and mindfulness can help reduce stress, improve focus, and boost creativity.

  3. Walk 10,000 steps every day. Regular exercise is essential for both physical and mental health, and walking is one of the easiest ways to incorporate movement into your daily routine.

  4. Read 10 pages of a non-fiction book every day. Reading is a great way to expand your knowledge and keep your mind sharp. If you don’t read, you are no more advanced than someone who can’t read.

  5. Be fully present with other people. Whether it's your wife, friends, or colleagues, make a conscious effort to be fully present in your interactions – no phones, no distractions.

  6. Be creative before reactive. Take some time every day to work on a creative project or task before diving into your reactive to-do list and other peoples request for your attention and time.

  7. Do not multi-task. Focus on one task at a time and create the space you need to give it your full attention. Creating valuable and impactful work needs your full focus.

  8. Digital sunset at 7:00 pm every day. Give your mind and body time to unwind and disconnect from technology before bed. Having your best and most productive day starts the night before!

  9. Take total control over your effort and your attitude. You have the power to choose how you approach every situation and how much effort you put in.

By incorporating these 9 principles into my daily routine, I've been able to achieve optimal performance and productivity. But it's important to remember that everyone is different, and what works for one person may not work for another. Experiment with different habits and routines to find what works best for you.

By taking control of your daily habits and routines, you can become the best version of yourself and achieve success in all areas of your life.
